Demonstration over increase in entry fee


rivers of three-wheelers used in transporting vegetables staged a demonstration on Thursday at the Coimbatore Corporation over the increase in entry fee for the vehicles at the Tyagi Kumaran Market.About 50 goods carrier autorickshaws were parked in protest on the Corporation premises at Town Hall in the morning, creating a flutter in this area.

The drivers were upset that they had to pay Rs.20 for each trip to the market.If they protested against the increase, the vehicles were not allowed to enter the market with the vegetables.They staged a demonstration on Big Bazaar Street, blocking traffic for some time, to demand that the increase of Rs.10 in the fee be withdrawn. It was not clear who was the actual contractor and who gave sanction for the increase, they said.

City police officials rushed to the spot to persuade the protestors to allow traffic to move.They dispersed after being told that the issue could be sorted out when Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra returned after his leave.
