Teachers to undergo training !
All teachers, appointed by colleges, will have to undergo a one-week intensive training at the university before they join duty, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University G. Thiruvasagam said here on Monday.“Most of the teachers appointed to teach in colleges are post-graduates or doctorates. They have not done B.Ed. or M.Phil. Hence, the quality of teaching is not up to the mark. Knowing the subject and teaching it are two different things. Hence, this training,” he said.
The training would include pedagogy, teaching methods, effective syllabus designing, question paper setting, interactive methods of teaching and communication, etc.The 60-hour training would be mandatory for acquiring a qualification approval. The onus for sending the teachers would lie on the colleges that have appointed them. The colleges would have to pay Rs. 1,000 towards the cost of training each teacher.
