K.G Naidu - Postal cover released


Minister for Rural Industries and Animal Husbandry Pongalur N. Palanisamy urged the Postal Department to release a stamp in memory of K. Govindaswamy Naidu, founder of K.G. Group of Institutions.The Department of Posts released a special postal cover of Naidu at Annur, about 35 km from here, on Saturday.

Speaking at the function, which was part of the centenary celebrations of Naidu, the Minister said he had known him since the days he used to sell cotton in Tirupur and Naidu had been coming to Tirupur to buy cotton.Chief Minister K. Karunanidhi had stayed at Naidu’s house in 1975. The family’s contribution now for development of the Information Technology sector was tremendous, he said.Releasing the postal cover, V. Rajarajan, Postmaster General, Western Region, said Naidu had achieved success by adopting the right path.

Social welfare

He had also contributed towards social welfare.The special cover would be available for sale with the Coimbatore Philately Association for a month, he said. R. Kaliannan, Inspector of Matriculation Schools, urged the students to emulate Naidu. Family members who spoke at the function said that according to Naidu, who had created a number of educational institutions, hospitals, charitable trusts and temples, business was not just for profit but for providing livelihood to others. In his personal life too, he was a man of discipline, they said.
