Raid At AU's VC Premises

Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Friday conducted searches simultaneously on three premises belonging to Vice-Chancellor, Anna University-Coimbatore, R. Radhakrishnan. According to DVAC sources, these followed a preliminary enquiry based on a petition forwarded to the Vigilance Directorate by the Governor’s Secretariat.

The sources pointed out that a petition was filed before the Madras High Court accusing the Vice-Chancellor of having amassed wealth disproportionate to the known sources of income. Searches were conducted at the residence of the Vice-Chancellor at Sai Baba Colony and in the office of a private trust run in the name of a foundation in the same area. The sources added that the trust was run by the Vice-Chancellor’s wife and mother-in-law in their capacities as managing trustee and trustee respectively. Searches were understood to be continuing at the Vice-Chancellor’s office near Periyanaickenpalayam.

Sources said the seizures or recoveries could be disclosed only on completion of the search operations and that the searches would continue late into the night. The DVAC has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act
