The Coimbatore Corporation launched on Saturday its online facility for its registered contractors to submit tenders for various development works.

Ten tenders for works costing over Rs.10 lakh were put on the website ( www.tntenders.gov.in). On accessing this page, one can find the latest invitations for tenders from various State Government agencies that run like a scroll under the head “Latest tenders”.Any of the 171 registered contractors of the Coimbatore Corporation can click on the particular local body’s bid invitation. Using a login identity and a password given to them by the Corporation they can upload their tenders, Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra said after the launch of the facility.

Mayor R. Venkatachalam and officials of the Corporation were present at the launch and a discussion on the features of this facility.“As per the guidelines from the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, tenders for all the works costing above Rs.10 lakh should be submitted online,” the Commissioner said.“This system is so transparent that it eliminates room for discrimination that is possible in the manual process. Only the bidder who uploads it can see because of the login identity and the password,” the Commissioner said.

The actual bidder could also get doubts clarified online and even add more details or issue corrections.Officials of the Corporation, including the Commissioner, were also provided with a login identity and password. “I need to use these to access the site where I can publish the invitation of bids,” Mr. Mishra said. The officials concerned with the tenders process in the Corporation and the contractors were trained on the use of this facility at the Tamil Nadu Institute of Urban Studies.
