Now, a website on TN villages

The State government will soon launch a website to enable people to contribute to causes in villages of their choice, according to P W C Davidar, State information technology secretary. Speaking at an interactive session titled ‘Unconference’ organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), on Thursday, he said, “A person residing in any part of the world can click on the village of his choice and would be able to make contributions like donations to a project, books to a library locate in the village, etc.” The website is expected to be launched in four to five months. The session focussed on generating ideas for the future by bringing various st­akeholders in the IT industry, technical experts, bloggers, up and coming IT savvy youngsters and senior government officials together.

Among the innovative ideas generated were, solar and wind powered chargers for the mobile phones and a common charger to fit all mobiles. Ashok, an MCA student of the PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore came up with the idea of providing information about a phone caller’s location to the receiver.The ideas generated at the conference will be presented at the Connect 2009 conference, to be held at the Chennai trade centre on September 11 and 12. The conference will be inaugurated by union communications and IT minister A Raja.
