New road to Vaidegi Falls !!

A newly-laid road to Vaidegi Falls in Narasipuram area of Thondamuthur was dedicated and financial assistance were given away by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram at a function held at Vellimalaipattinam on Friday.Under the Youth Talent Tapping Scheme, Mr. Chidambaram also gave away appointment orders to 750 beneficiaries. Under the Social Welfare Scheme, the Home Minister gave away Rs. 6 lakh to 36 beneficiaries.

Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Thondamuthur MLA M.N. Kandasamy and Collector P. Umanath took part.The Minister also inaugurated the newly-constructed additional classrooms for the local school.Roads were an indication of infrastructure and infrastructure was essential for economic and industrial progress, he said.Mr. Chidambaram also said that he would make efforts to get funds allocated for the Poondi road either under the Prime Minister’s Road Improvement Project or under the NABARD Road Scheme.


Mr. Chidambaram said that in accordance with the election manifesto of the United Progressive Alliance equal reservation of 50 per cent for women in local bodies was in the offing and legislation to that effect was expected shortly.The aim of the government was to ensure that India achieved the position of a developed nation. Cordial relations that existed between the Tamil Nadu Government and Centre was instrumental in bringing many schemes and funds towards Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Palanisamy reiterated the need for a sustained focus on infrastructure improvement. Mr. Umanath said that 75,000 beneficiaries had been enrolled in the Chief Minister’s Insurance Scheme.
