Reliance & Shakti Group to penetrate non-woven technical textiles industry.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Coimbatore based Shakti Group are planning to penetrate the non-woven technical textiles sector, which has potential to raise US $6 billion.
Speaking to the media, Seshadri Ramkumar, Company Chairman, INDA-India Committee, informed that RIL has freshly joined Association of the Non-woven Fabrics Industry (INDA) in US as a member, while Shakti Group will join soon.
He added that many other local giants are taking interest in the sector, looking beyond the apparel industry. Government is expecting that technical textiles likely to add $12.7 billion by 2012 and non-woven textiles could make up about $6 billion.
INDA anticipates world’s non-woven textiles to reach $22 billion within 2009. Production of non-woven technical textiles in the country stands at 35,000 tons per annum today, which could be upturned to 3,00,000 tons per annum through industry base, according to President Rory Holmes.
Absorbent hygiene products like surgical gowns, ladies health care products, diapers, face masks and geotextiles are made using non-woven textiles.
Coimbatore based Shakti Group has a turnover of more than Rs2,000 crores per year, of which textiles make up Rs100 crores.
