Commotion at Irugur container terminal

Coimbatore: Commotion prevailed for nearly three hours at the container terminal at the Irugur railway station on Saturday morning when three groups of head load workers each demanded that they alone should be employed for loading and unloading cargo from wagons.
Head load workers from North Coimbatore Junction (where the container operations were located earlier), workers from Irugur and those from neighbouring Sulur area, said they alone should be allowed to do the work.

Finally, the issue was resolved with the authorities saying they would give first give priority to those from Irugur, then to workers from North Coimbatore and finally to workers from Sulur, depending on the volume of cargo arriving and those waiting for despatch.
