Fire at Ooty hills

Coimbatore:A fire engulfed the Tiger hill and valley view on the slopes of Dodabetta range and damaged about 50 acres of forest land in the Nilgiris district. It was later put out by the forest officials.The major fire was brought under control after a five-hour battle, the forest officials said. The fire had, however, killed many small animals, though big animals and trees were not affected.Due to rise in temperature and scarcity of water, the elephants were straying into the human habitat for the past one month.Animals like bison, elephants, sambar and spotted deers had also started migrating from the Indira Gandhi wildlife sanctuary in the district to the neighbouring Kerala forests, the officials said.
