HCL's Career Development Centre at Coimbatore

The Rs 12,155-crore HCL Infosystems has lined up plans to expand the technology education business which it launched recently under the banner of HCL Career Development Centre (HCL CDC).The company intends to set up 100 centres nationally over the next 12-15 months. It is also eyeing tie-ups with leading corporate groups to outsource their IT training requirements. Talking to reporters here,HCL Infosystems executive vicepresident Rajendra Kumar said the company is exploring the option to expand HCL CDCs through the franchisee route.At present, the company operates HCL CDCs in seven cities — Delhi, Noida, Pune, Coimbatore, Meerut, Agra and Kolkata.

“About 90% of the centres will be set up on the franchisee model and the balance will be owned by HCL.We are exploring options in the overseas market where we can leverage India’s progress in the ICT space.This includes Africa, the Middle East and the Saarc nations,”Mr Kumar said. While Mr Kumar refused to divulge investment details or the kind of revenues HCL is eyeing from the education business,he said typically each HCL CDC facility will entail an outlay of about Rs 15-25 lakh.“We have targets to train some 50,000 students over the next three to four years,” he added. Elaborating on the plans, HCL Infosystems associate vice-president STM Eswar said the company in the first phase will focus on creating a network of training centres.
