Omni buses checked by Motor Vehicle Inspectors

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Circle of the transport department on 30.03.2007 night conducted a drive against violation of rules by motor vehicles with a focus on omni buses. In a release, Deputy Transport Commissioner T. Gunasekaran said the Regional Transport Officers and Motor Vehicle Inspectors conducted checks at five places here.As many as 356 vehicles were checked, of which 63 were issued check reports. Four vehicles were found plying without Pollution Under Control certificates, 20 with overloading by goods, seven without driving licences, 12 using air horns and 42 vehicles were fined for various other offences.


A total of Rs. 11,555 was collected as tax besides Rs. 34,9950 as compounding fee. The authorities had proposed Rs. 67,300 as compounding fee to be realised by the respective registering authorities after adhering to procedures such as serving of show-cause notices.
