Forest fire in Marudamalai hill ranges
Coimbatore:A forest fire broke out at the Marudamalai hills on March 8th.District Forest Officer I Anwardeen said the Forest Department staff from Coimbatore and Pooluvampatti ranges have been despatced to the spot.
The staff, along with the tribals from the nearby settlements, were battling for hours to put out the fire, he said and added that windy weather made things difficult for them.Claiming that only grasses and bushes were destroyed in the fire, he said around 10.30 pm that around 80 percent of the fire was put out and expressed hope that by early morning the fire would be completely extinguished.
Forest Department staff were patrolling on the other side of the hill, just above the Anubavi temple in Coimbatore range to stop the fire from spreading to that side. The fire is suspected to have been caused by some miscreants.
