Tirupur innerwear stitching units call off indefinite strike
Coimbatore, Mar 9: Innerwear stitching units in and around Tirupur resumed operations today after ending their 11-day strike seeking hike in production charges.The protest was called off after an agreement on hiking charges from 12 to 17 per cent, as against the demand of 30 per cent, was reached between the stitching units and the managements of domestic innerwear brands.

Accordingly, nearly 1,000 units, employing between 25,000 to 30,000 people, resumed operations this morning, sources in South India Hosiery Manufacturing Association (SIHMA) said.The agreement was reached in the presence of SIHMA office bearers, the sources added.
