Embroidery Training Programme for SHG

Coimbatore has plenty of opportunities for employment. But it suffers from a dearth of skilled manpower, District Collector Neeraj Mittal said here on 13.04.2007.At the valedictory of the `Aari Embroidery Training Programme' organised by Kumaraguru College of Technology in association with Tamil Nadu Corporation For Development of Women for members of women Self Help Groups (SHG), Mr Mittal said Coimbatore district had shown progress in entrepreneurship.

Under the Mahalir Thittam scheme there were around 18,000 women SHGs and 729 youth SHGs in the district. The Government was also encouraging the activities of these SHGs by organising various skill development programmes for them. The idea was to design employment-oriented training programmes to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of work force, Dr.Mittal said.The women SHGs were allotted Rs.47.87 crore in the last financial year. The SHGs were also provided with infrastructural facilities, revolving funds and loans.
