Ultra deluxe luxury bus services from Coimbatore
Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Coimbatore division, is launching 13 ultra deluxe luxury bus services to Chennai besides services to southern districts from Tirupur.The services would be flagged off at a function in Tirupur on April 15. Transport Minister K.N. Nehru and Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin and Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy would participate.The ultra deluxe buses, each costing around Rs. 16 lakh, will have air suspension coaches, pushback seats, cell-phone chargers, television and window screens.The buses will be operated from Coimbatore, Pollachi, Tirupur, Kangeyam, Sathyamangalam, Dharapuram and Gobichettipalayam to Chennai.
There will be two buses on each sector with a pairing service on either direction. Two ultra-deluxe bus services by State Express Transport Corporation to be operated to Chennai from Tirupur would also be flagged off, the sources said.The buses will replace the four ordinary buses being operated on the Coimbatore - Chennai and Pollachi - Chennai sector.Nine existing buses due for renewal will also be replaced on the occasion besides flagging off six new town buses.
In addition, new buses will be flagged off from Tirupur to places such as Rameshwaram, Kumuli, Karaikkudi, Kumbakonam, Shencotta, Nagercoil, Thiruvarur, Pudukottai, Paramakkudi, Valparai and Gudalur in southern districts for the benefit of the migrant workforce.Hitherto, the migrant workforce had to bank on skeleton services for a direct bus to these destinations or they had to change buses at Madurai and Tiruchirapalli.TNSTC was also on the job of identifying potential new routes for operating services.An exercise was already underway to identify the routes on which there was a need for increasing night bus services within Coimbatore city besides introducing more night services to Tirupur, Mettupalayam, Pollachi and Udumalpet from Coimbatore, the sources said.
