Coimbatore doctor got Tamilnadu Scientist Award
The Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology, an autonomous body functioning under the department of higher education, under its programme Tamilnadu Scientist Award (TANSA) has selected 10 scientists in different disciplines for the year 2006 in recognition of their contribution in various fields of science and technology. According to a press release, the scientists selected for TANSA are K Vanangamudi, Dean of Agriculture, Tamilnadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, under the discipline Agricultural Sciences, N Raaman, Professor of Centre for Advanced Studies in Botany, University of Madras under the discipline Biological Sciences, S Sriman Narayanan, Professor of Department of Analytical Chemistry, University of Madras, under the discipline Chemical Sciences, G Sekaran, Deputy Director of Department of Environmental Technology, Central Leather Research Institute, Adyar, under the discipline Environmental Sciences, R Venkatesan from National Institute of Ocean Technology, Pallikaranai, under the discipline Engineering and Technology, E Thandapani, Professor of Mathematics from Periyar University and K Meena, Head of Computer Science and Engineering, Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College under the discipline Mathematical Sciences, S Raja Sabapathy, Department of Plastic Hand Reconstructive Micro Surgery, Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore and Thangam Menon, Professor, Department of Microbiology, Dr ALMPGIBMS, University of Madras, Taramani, were selected under the discipline medical sciences.
D Velmurugan, Professor, Department of Crystallography and Bio Physics, University of Madras and V Ramakrishnan, Professor, Department of Laser Studies, school of Physics from Madurai Kamaraj University were selected under the discipline Physical Sciences respectively. R Kannan, Director, UGC-Academic Staff College from Madurai Kamaraj University under the discipline Social Sciences and V Balakrishnan, Professor, Department of Animal Nutrition, Madras Veterinary College, under the category Veterinary Sciences.Each scientist will be presented with a cash award of Rs 10,000 and a citation at an award giving ceremony to be arranged by the Council at a later date, the release said.
