Coimbatore doctor in CME programme
Two medical issues will be highlighted at a CME (continuing medical education) programme organised by the Apollo Medical Centre (AMC) here to be held tomorrow, at Haffa House Hotel in Ruwi,Muscat.Dr Asha R. Rao, managing director, Rao Hospital Centre, Coimbatore, and Dr Geeta Muralidhara, consultant, gynaecology and obstetrics, AMC will lead the CME. Dr Asha is a medical graduate from Mysore University, and was awarded the gold medal.
She had won the prestigious President of India silver medal for being the best outgoing lady candidate of the University in 1976. A trained micro and laparoscopic surgeon from Brussels, she undertook training in IVF-ART procedures at Churchill Clinic, London. She was involved in establishing the IVF centre with ART unit and test-tube unit at Rao Hospitals, Coimbatore. In India, the first gift baby and first ICSI baby were born at the Rao hospital. Dr Geeta Muralidhara is a specialist consultant gynaecologist and obstetrician at Apollo Medical Centre, Muscat. She has more than 32 years of experience in gynaecology and obstetrics.
Before joining Apollo Medical Centre, she worked for New Sohar Hospital, Ministry of Health, for two years. Prior to working in MoH, she worked for 30 years in Department of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka, India. She is a life member of the Indian Red Cross Society and Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, India. She has presented various papers on pregnancy-related topics at national and international levels. Dr Geeta Muralidhara’s areas of interest in gynaecology are infertility management and management of menerrhogia. The centre has a full-fledged obstetrics and gynaecology unit. Two other doctors assisting Dr Geeta are Dr Elyen and Dr Shala Amjad Ali.
