Community colleges soon by BU
Community colleges that will offer vocational training in various trades will be established shortly in different places, G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, said here on Monday.Speaking to presspersons, Prof. Thiruvasagam said this would address the problem of unqualified manpower present in all sectors.
"There is a serious dearth of manpower in all areas. There are a lot of people who are skilled, but do not possess the educational criteria to get a job. The community colleges will give certification to such people who undergo a six or 12-month course".There was no minimum eligibility for joining a trade course. The only requirement was that they should be literates. The college would make them "qualified and trained" in their skill.

"Some persons from Erode, Tirupur and Udumalpet have shown interest in setting up the colleges. They will be given approval if they meet the required eligibility criteria. Approval will be given for 18 to 20 trades to begin with. The certificate they obtain here will also help them get better jobs abroad", the Vice-Chancellor said.
