Flood alert @ Coimbatore

Flood alert has been sounded at various places in Coimbatore district, following the threat of rivers' overflowing, due to widespread rains, being experienced since yesterday morning.People residing on the banks and adjacent low lying areas of Noyyal and Bhavani rivers were asked to move to safer places and also not to go near the river, official sources told PTI.Good rains that were lashing Siruvani dam and catchment areas have resulted in the Noyyal river overflowing and alert is being sounded through 'tom-tom' in villages of Madhvarayapuram, Alandurai,Poluvampatti, Perur and Vellalore, they said.

Meanwhile, water is being let into Bhavani river from Pilloor dam, which has reached the 99.5 feet level, against the capacity of 100 ft.The residents of Nellithurai, Mettupalayam, Sirumugai and Alangompu have been asked to move to safety,they said.The district administration has asked various departments to monitor the rain and flood situation, round-the-clock.
