Rs 96 Cr for textile technical development
The Centre will implement a Rs 96 crore scheme in the 11th plan for development of technical textiles in the to promote their indigenous manufacturing.The scheme, besides exploiting the global opportunities and increasing employment opportunities, would provide infrastructure support by setting up Centres of Excellence for manufacture of technical textiles, Union Minister of State for Textiles E V K S Elangovan said on Monday.
Elangovan was speaking after inaugurating an International Conference on Advances in Textiles, Machinery, Non-woven and Technical Textiles, here organised by a private college in collaboration with Texas Tech University, USA.The government was aware that the sub-sectors of textile industry have great potential for growth in the coming years and the country was well placed to exploit the advantages accruing from them, he said.The policy initiatives in coming years would be geared towards the development of these futuristic segments of textile industry, so that Indian textiles gained its place of pride in the world, Elangovan said.
With a large textile-manufacturing base and technical manpower, India has the potential to become the leading exporter of the various technical textile products, he said, adding demand and consumption of technical textile products would grow enormously in India in the near future.
