Farmers told to purchase quality seeds

Director of Seed Certification, Coimbatore, S. Perumal, has urged the farming community to purchase good quality seeds in order to get good yield.According to a release from the director, the Seed Law Enforcement wing of the Department of Seed Certification, Coimbatore, is monitoring whether the farming community is receiving quality seeds. Hence, it has given some pointers to alert them about procuring seeds of good quality.Farmers are told to confirm the variety and validity period of the lot before purchasing seeds from licensed seed selling points.They should get the purchase bill containing details like variety, lot number, validity period, price, date of purchase and signature of the buyer, without fail.

Farmers are also told to retain the bill, some seed samples and seed containers along with tags or labels for future reference. In case of any problem, a written complaint can be referred to the Seed Inspector or Assistant Director of Seed Inspection, along with the bill and samples.The department is implementing schemes in seed certification, seed law enforcement, seed testing and training.For details, contact The Director of Seed Certification, 1424 A, Thadagam Road, Coimbatore – 641013; or call 0422-2432984.
