Industries to support HIV positive

Following up on the sensitisation programmes held for industrial workers on HIV/AIDS as part of its industrial intervention programme, Native Medicare Charitable Trust, a non-Governmental organisation, working for the prevention of HIV/AIDS, recently conducted a meeting where industries joined hands in support of the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) policy on HIV/AIDS.According to the ILO policy, the organisation should be sensitive to the needs of the infected employee.

Providing a safe and healthy work environment for the employees, educating the employees and family on prevention, care and counselling of HIV/AIDS, safe blood donation and transfusion were some of them.If any employee had been infected, the company should keep information about the illness confidential.Only the immediate head would be kept advised on preventing any medical emergency.The heads of various industrial institutions in Coimbatore jointly signed an ‘HIV/AIDS’ policy, which aims to adhere by the standards set by ILO.An HIV positive employee would be allowed to continue work unless he or she is not medically fit.


If so, they may be shifted to another comfortable profile.The company would not discriminate against any employee who is HIV positive when it comes to promotions, training or any such matters which are given to other employees.The company would also educate its employees on HIV/AIDS and encourage them for go in for voluntary counselling and testing.
