‘Investiture ceremony’ held

The newly elected leaders and house captains at the ’investiture ceremony’ at SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Coimbatore.The selection of the school leader and house captains and the inauguration of the current academic year’s extra curricular activities were held at the SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School recently. The ‘investiture’ (the installation of the school leader and house captains) was done by M.Ragamuneeswaran, father of R.Chandru, the school topper in the Class X examinations.

S.Guruprasad was selected the school leader and Shruthi Ravikumar, the assistant school leader. The entire school is divided into four houses – Cheran, Cholan, Pandian and Pallavan. The school places a lot of importance on extracurricular activities , school principal V.Subramanian says.The school has 21 clubs, which include literature, maths, science, drama and sports, .Each student from Class VI to IX and Class XI is expected to be a member of at least one club, he says. Sports, including athletics are also given a lot of importance in the school. The school is also planning to introduce a new game, ‘Sepak Takra,’ from this year onwards. The game involves a cane ball. The players can use their feet, head and shoulders to hit the ball and not their hands. For the students of Class XI, the school also organises a ‘Life Orientation Camp’ every year to introduce them to the health and emotional problems faced during adolescence and how to handle them. Experts also speak to the students on career guidance at these camps.
