Job fair at Coimbatore good responce
Screening at Sharadha Terry Products at The Hindu Opportunities Fair 2007 in Coimbatore. For job seekers with different academic qualifications and good communication skills employment opportunities were aplenty at the two-day The Hindu Opportunities Fair 2007 which started here on Saturday. It has companies from different sectors - textiles, engineering and construction, apart from IT and ITES. For instance, William Hare (India) Private Limited, a structural engineering company, was looking out for candidates with civil, mechanical and structural engineering backgrounds for posts such as design engineers, checking engineers and detail engineers.
“This is the first time we are participating in a job fair. And, within an hour we have got about 50 applications with the required qualifications,” said R. Sundararajan, its Manager – Human Resources. Sharadha Terry Products Limited is expanding its operations and needs people for various posts. “We do three levels of screening here,” said D. Vikram Krishna, its Director. Mainly the freshers were short-listed at the fair and vacancies were for assignments such as production, maintenance and logistics in charge. The Tirupur-based Royal Classic Group is recruiting candidates for about 15 posts. “The applications that we collect here will also serve as a databank,” said R. Narayanan, its Assistant General Manager-HRD Pricol Property Development Limited was scouting for structural and civil engineers and architects. “The demand for architects and structural engineers especially is huge in Coimbatore,” said S.Vijay, Marketing Department.
The company has not yet started recruitment on campuses and is planning to do so this year. Call centre jobs seemed the easiest bet for the hordes of freshers who thronged the fair. While Q First India had offers for freshers from all backgrounds and a strong command over spoken English, E-publishing firms such as 365 Media were giving preference to those with arts and literature background.
