New rule automatically takes out the duplicates
The rule that one should produce a family card or a ‘No card certificate’ to get a new LPG connection is causing severe hardship to consumers. It is intended to prevent those having LPG connection from buying kerosene at subsidised rates.Petroleum companies and LPG dealers too devised a mechanism to check whether a person had more than one LPG connection using the rule. This resulted in people having multiple connections surrender their extra connections.Issuance of a ‘No card certificate’ is taking long time which is affecting a consumer very much. Taluk officers who are supposed to issue the certificate are citing various reasons including work load for the delay.
Thousands are already waiting for family cards. In Coimbatore alone the administration has to process 36,000 applications and the work is expected to start in July.Dealers say the problem can be solved to an extent if they are allowed to accept the token issued while accepting an application for family card in lieu of a No card certificate.District Collector Neeraj Mittal said that District Supply Officer would be asked to examine the situation and sort it out in consultation with petroleum companies.
