Common facility building for wet grinder manufacturers

Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) Jawahar Sircar will inaugurate on Sunday the common facility building for wet grinder manufacturers here.Assistant Director of Branch MSME Development Institute, V. Ramakrishnan, told The Hindu that the project was sanctioned as part of the cluster development programme for the wet grinder industry in Coimbatore, implemented by the MSME Development Institute and the Coimbatore District Wet Grinder and Accessories Manufacturers’ Association.

The programme concluded a couple of months ago. During the three-year period, several marketing, technical and financial assistance measures were initiated for the wet grinder and accessory manufacturing units here.A proposal sanctioned under it was to establish a common facility centre (COWMA Cluster Services) at Vellanaipatti, eight km from here. The centre would have machinery to manufacture raw materials needed for wet grinders. The premises would also house a research and development facility and a laboratory too. “This will directly benefit about 200 units,” he said.

Of the total project cost of Rs. 2.88 crore, the wet grinder manufacturing units had spent about Rs. 70 lakh so far on land and building. They were expecting Rs. 1 crore as subsidy from the Centre and Rs. 16.5 lakh as subsidy from the State Government. “Since the project is already sanctioned, we are waiting for the disbursement of assistance,” he said.“We can commission the centre in two or three months once we get the assistance.”The machinery would be ordered once the assistance amount was received and the disbursement was expected shortly, Mr. Ramakrishnan added.
