Gujarat is keen to collaborate with TNAU

A delegation from Gujarat, which visited the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) on Friday, said it is keen on exploring areas where it can collaborate with the university.The 11-member delegation is keen on research activities related to biotechnology, bio-diesel, hybrids, especially in horticulture and seed production activities.The delegation was headed by Gujarat Minister of State for Agriculture Dilipkumar Thakor.Sheila Benjamin, Additional Secretary, Agriculture, S C Shrivastava, Managing Director of Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Ltd, Vice- Chancellors of three agricultural universities in Gujarat namely M C Varshneya, (Anand Agricultural University), R P S Ahalavat (Navsari Agricultural University) and R C Maheshwari Sardar Krushinagar- Tantiwada Agricultural University), Directors of agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry departments and two directors of research formed part of the team which was on a ‘study tour’ to TNAU.

The Minister said that Gujarat is an agriculturally progressive state and Chief Minister Narendra Modi is giving all importance to research programmes. He explained in detail about ‘Krushi Mahotsav,’ a month-long pre-monsoon campaign conducted in the villages for encouraging scientific farming among the farmers.The team evinced great interest in seed production activities in the TNAU.Director CARDS, TNAU, K Palanisamy, explained how TNAU is helping the State Government in framing policies.The team members visited the Bio-Technology Laboratories, Bio-diesel plant, Mushroom park and Post-Harvest Technology Centre. Earlier, the team was received by TNAU Registrar P Santhana Krishnan.
