A stall demonstrating kitchen appliances at ’Smart Rooms 2007,’ at the Padmavathi Ammal Cultural Centre in the city on Thursday.Smart Rooms 2007 has everything a home requires. Organised by Interface Trade Fair Private Limited, the show has over 80 stalls from various parts of the country.With special focus on bedrooms, bathrooms and the kitchen, the fair encompasses a wide collection of modern lifestyle products ranging from kitchen appliances to furniture and interior decoration.The stalls seem to emphasise that modular kitchens indeed are the order of the day.

Compact kitchen cabinets, shelves, storage systems, sinks, counter tops and many more are available at attractive discounts.A company has launched its stove set along with the chimney, which is available for Rs.4,000, the original price being Rs.8,000.For bedrooms, there are stylish headboards, sleek frames, pillows, mattresses, Venetian blinds, insect screens, curtains and wardrobes made of wood and steel.Bathrooms could be given an interesting appearance with the sanitary ware, bathroom fittings and accessories, faucets and shower fixtures, Jacuzzi, cisterns and shower enclosures that are on display.


Bed linen in white from ‘Linenbox,’ a Chennai-based company, is a special attraction.The soft, embroidered package with a set of bed sheets and pillow covers can cost up to Rs.2,000. But, it comes with a discount of 20 per cent.Stalls selling kitchen appliances such as automatic chapathi makers, dish washers, ovens, micro wave ovens, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, tea and coffee makers, water purifiers and solar water heaters are plenty, attracting a large number of visitors.Demonstrations of the appliances are also done here, so that visitors can get an idea of how the product will perform and how useful it could be at home, if they decide to purchase it.For those who are looking at designing the interiors, there are marvels crafted in glass. Etched and stained glass show pieces, mirrors and table tops are available.


Partitions that can be used in offices and homes made by fusing glass clusters with exquisite designs are on display. Crafts and Tanjore paintings to adorn the walls are available.A stall set up by the faculty of Amrit Institute of Special Needs, a centre catering to children with disabilities, is also attracting considerable attention.Greeting cards, attractive paper bags, pen stands, notepads, envelopes and book marks, all made by the children at the institute are for sale. These cost from Rs.15 to Rs.50. Those who wish to place orders for sweet boxes or greeting cards can do so. These materials are all made from hand-made paper.The fitness equipment and imported furniture collection at various stalls are not to be missed. The fair is on till August 15.
