The Forest Department here will plant 2 lakh teak saplings at an outlay of about Rs 9.60 lakh under the “Trees outside the Forest” project.District Forest Officer I. Anwardeen said that 160 teak trees could be cultivated in an acre and a maximum of 400 trees a hectare. The department would provide the required expertise and inputs for growing the trees.In the Coimbatore Division 225 farmers with adequate land holding were being identified for providing them with 75,000 saplings, Mr. Anwardeen said.
