They were free to choose their field of interest, she added.Speaking at the Decennial celebrations of Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, she pointed out that changes in society had led to the decline in the joint family system and certain values, especially among the youth.The youth should strive to preserve their culture and tradition, Ms. Jagadeesan said.N.Mahalingam, Chairman of Sakthi Group, said that every college should be made a university and should be granted autonomy.Though educational facilities have improved in the State, it still needed many more self financing colleges, he said.Technology facilitated education, but it diverted the attention of students from academics, he pointed out.
