Mayor's plea for layouts

Coimbatore Mayor R. Venkatachalam and Deputy Mayor N. Karthick have appealed to Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin to take steps for regularisation of layouts on the surplus lands in urban areas under the Urban Land Ceiling Act. They met the Minister at Chennai on Wednesday and presented a memorandum in this regard. They pointed out that under the Urban Land Ceiling Act 253 acres of excess land under the Act had become 93 layouts with 2,570 sites in Coimbatore. They appealed to the Minister to table the issue before the ongoing session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and hammer out a solution.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor pointed out that in Singanallur area alone 186.05 acres of surplus lands had 65 layouts with 1,935 house sites in areas such as SIGH Colony, Ondipudur, Singanallur, Anna Nagar, Peelamedu, PPS Colony and Sai Baba Colony. Only the regularisation of these layouts would help the local body implement development works for improving the basic infrastructure for these students. The Local Administration Minister had assured to take up the issue in the ongoing session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
