Graduation Ceremony of Sri Ramakrishna Institute

This will be of more use than sending fresh inexperienced doctors, R. Radhakrishnan, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Coimbatore, said here on Friday.

Speaking at the combined graduation and lamp lighting ceremony of the College of Nursing, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences, he said that the Medical Council should consider introducing a lateral entry for nurses by which they can update their qualification to become doctors like that of the one in engineering.Lamenting that the number of medical colleges is very less compared to those in engineering, he remarked that in 25 years the number of doctors would come down with the high influx of specialised machines that would be able to detect many ailment.

Speaking on the job opportunities in the area of nursing, he said that there was no dearth of jobs both in India and abroad for nurses.“Indian nurses are considered to be the best in the world.” He complimented the first year nursing students who had chosen to pursue a degree in nursing when there were other courses that offered attractive and lucrative opportunities to make more money. Mr. Radhakrishnan called for inter-disciplinary research between medicine and engineering to enhance the technology in medicine.R. Venkatesalu, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust; A.B.
