Regulatory orders in Coimbatore

City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan has clamped regulatory orders under section 41 of the Madras City Police Act prohibiting public assemblies, dharnas, processions, public meetings and demonstrations in all 15 police station limits till the midnight of January 1, 2008.The regulatory orders are aimed at averting breach of public peace and tranquillity by persons belonging to different political, social, economic and religious ideologies, the police press release said.

The Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, G. Karthikeyan, has announced that regulatory orders under rule 30 (2) of the Police Act had been clamped by the Deputy Superintendents of Police in Periyanaickenpalayam, Tirupur, Palladam, Udumalpet, Pollachi, Valparai, Perur, Avanashi sub-divisions. Hence, conducting dharnas, demonstrations, agitations, fasts, demonstrations and road roko would be deemed as a violation of the regulatory order and legal action would be initiated.Marriage, religious rituals and funerals are exempted from the rule.
