‘INTEC 2008’

Industries should address the problem by training the manpower either in factories or through upgrading the Industrial Training Institutes, said Hermamm F. Weiler, managing director of GDW Werkzevg Maschinen Gmbh of Germany, here on Friday.
Mr. Weiler was speaking at the inauguration of INTEC 2008, the 10th International Industrial Trade Fair and the concurrent events, ToolEX2008 and Automation Expo 2008, organised by CODISSIA.He said jobs such as loading and unloading on CNC machines could be done by robots, so that the skilled labour could be better used in other jobs. Automation was necessary and would not kill jobs.He added that the world was changing fast and now customers were looking for higher precision, better quality and fine surface. To cater to their needs, the machine tool and tooling industry should bring out new products.
Many foreign companies were coming to India to source components for their products looking in terms of higher quality, reliability, delivery schedules and competitive costs. The Indian companies should be able to satisfy their expectations, he said.V.V.R. Murthy, Limca Book of Records, New Delhi, presented the World Record declaration to CODISSIA INTEC Technology Centre phase II, the largest pillar-free hall of 19,203 sq meters constructed in 144 days from July 9, 2007, at Rs. 25 crore.CODISSIA INTEC 2008 chairman K.V. Ganapathy said the INTEC fairs were conducted to promote the manufacturing sector. India was becoming a hub for the manufacturing activity with foreign companies coming here for outsourcing.
INTEC 2008 has participation from Austria, China, Germany, Turkey, U.K. and USA apart from Indian industries representing New Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. The exhibition has 525 stalls. The spectrum of industries include engineering related machinery CNC, automation, tools, accessories, hydraulics, electronics, electrical, projects and consultancy. The fair will go on till February 6.R. Palaniswami, president of COINTEC, honoured the architects, consultants and contractors who were instrumental in constructing the hall. C.
