Black Kite Rescued
A black kite, which was rescued in Coimbatore by People For Animals activists on Wednesday. An injured kite was rescued by the People for Animals (PFA) near Gandhipuram here on Wednesday. The bird, estimated to be close to a year old, was found lying on the roadside near Kavitha theatre by two students from Ramakrishna College. The students, K.R. Venugopal and M. Arun Prasad immediately alerted Animal Welfare Board officer and PFA activist Kalpana Vasudevan who rushed to the spot along with PFA’s veterinary doctor Antony Raj. The bird is suspected to be suffering from a problem in the nervous system. “It was unable to move when we first approached it. But, after feeding it glucose solution, it is able to move,” Ms. Kalpana said. Though fear prevented most people from approaching the bird, the students had the presence of mind to inform PFA, Ms. Kalpana said. Awareness on animal welfare was increasing and the organisation was receiving calls from the public seeking help for injured animals. In the last one month, the PFA had rescued about 20 injured, abandoned and sick dogs from in and around Coimbatore. “We have also rescued horses and donkeys and even a snake,” she added.
