Hoax Bomb Call In CPI Rally
A 28-year-old man was on Sunday arrested for allegedly making a hoax bomb call on April 3 during a CPI(M) rally here. Police said they had received a call from Thekkamalai, a travel agency driver, around 6 pm on that day stating that a bomb would explode at VOC Park Grounds, where top leaders like Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury were present besides 50,000 party workers, who had gathered for the rally. His intention was only to create panic during the rally
Police traced the mobile number used to make the call and found that the accused had purchased the SIM card from a mobile dealer giving false address. However, aided by the technical assistance from Network Operators and the intelligence wing, police detained Thekkamalai, who confessed that his intention was only to create panic during the rally, they said.
