Patch Works Will Begin On NH 47

The badly battered stretch of the National Highway 47 between Perundurai and Neelambur bypass road junction and again from Madukkarai to Walayar (Tamil Nadu – Kerala border) hitherto remained a cause for concern. The potholes and craters affected the free flow of traffic resulting in frequent traffic snarls thus increasing the travel time from Coimbatore to destinations such as Tirupur, Erode and Salem. In addition, the drivers who tend to negotiate the craters and potholes at the last minute result in losing control and end up with accidents.
The entire work is being carried out at an outlay of Rs 1.65 crore, officials added

The road by virtue of its access to a number of towns including the hosiery town besides being a gateway to Bangalore, Chennai and other destinations in Kerala accounted for a huge volume of traffic. Villagers on either side of the NH 47 have putt up flex board banners urging the authorities to carry out the repairs. Following representations, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) that hitherto waited for the relaying of the NH 47 as part of the four lane works from Salem to Kochi, has now decided to carry out patch works as an ad-hoc measure without waiting for the widening works.

In the next phase, the authorities said that the widening of the stretch into a four lane one and strengthening would be done. NHAI officials said that patch works have commenced from Chengapalli near Erode and said that the works would be carried out till Neelambur bypass road. Authorities were confident of completing the patch work and make the road motorable latest by the month-end. Similarly, the patch works from Madukkarai to Walayar for nearly 12 km have also commenced and the entire work is being carried out at an outlay of Rs 1.65 crore, officials added.
