Helpline Num For Passengers

With the summer season resulting in trains running packed to their capacity, the Railway Police have come up with a toll free helpline number 99625 00500 to help passengers in distress. The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Railway Police, N. Dhanapal, said that elaborate arrangements have been made to assist passengers and protect them from criminal elements. The toll free help line number to be in Chennai was mooted by the Inspector-General of Police, Railways, G. Uma Ganapathy Sastry and Deputy Inspector-General of Police, P. Sivanandi and the numbers are manned round-the-clock.
It will also arrange for medical aid and ambulance in the event of any passenger falling sick.

Every train is being provided with three police personnel on escort duty who are equipped with a cellular phone and fire arm. The control room in the event of a distress call will not only alert the police personnel on board the trains, but will also arrange to take into custody the accused to the next immediate station in the event of a crime. It will also arrange for medical aid and ambulance in the event of any passenger falling sick. Mr. Dhanapal said the system in the recent days had helped in taking safe custody of the luggage, baggage, suitcase left behind by passengers and in restoring them to the original owner.
