World Health Day Celebration

The younger generation should take extra care in minimising the use of fossil fuels and thereby do their bit in reducing pollution, said V.Janardhanam, Managing Director, KTVR Group Hospital and president, Coimbatore Environmental Society. Delivering the special address at the World Health Day celebrations at Avinashilingam University, he asked students to exercise restraint in the use of non-renewable resources. Climate changes could affect human health, he said.

If nothing was done to curb pollution, the aftermath of global warming and green house effect would be terrible, he observed. The World Health Day celebration at the university coincided with the birth anniversary of former Vice-Chancellor of the university, Rajammal P.Devadas. Usha Chandrasekhar, former dean, faculty of home science, Avinashilingam University, said Rajammal P.Devadas had introduced the concept of need-based projects for the welfare of society, to the university. Most of her work was targeted towards the eradication of malnutrition in society.


Addressing students, T.K.Shanmuganandam, Chancellor of the university, said that it was imperative to focus on taking nutritious food and encourage healthy food habits among the youth. A poster competition was also held in connection with the World Health Day for the students.
