AUT Urged Govt For Pay Revision

The Association of University Teachers (AUT) has urged the State Government to take immediate steps to release the pay revision arrears to retired teachers from aided colleges. “It is highly deplorable that retired teachers are the only section to whom pay revision arrears have not been paid,” a release from association’s general secretary U. Sundararajan said.

The association met on Sunday under the leadership of president P. Jayagandhi. Its demands include conversion of all self-financing courses of arts and science colleges into aided ones, stopping the move of Anna University from starting arts and science courses, filling up vacancies in the Regional Joint Directorates of Collegiate Education, etc. It also sought immediate redress to the “inordinate delay in resolving the various issues related to the Sowdeswari College, Salem, and Chikkaia Naicker College, Erode”.

“Despite repeated representations and struggles against the move of the Government to convert two aided colleges and five Government colleges into unitary universities, it is unfortunate the Government is determined to go ahead with it,” the release added. The association resolved to participate in all the programmes of direct action of the Joint Action Council of College Teachers of Tamil Nadu to show their solidarity against the move of the Government.
