Coimbatore AU Filed Patents

The Centre for Intellectual Property Rights of Anna University, Coimbatore, has filed 20 patents, 12 trademarks and a copyright, since its inception in 2007. “Another 15 patents, 30 trademarks and 10 copyrights will be filed in two-three months. The university aims to file at least 100 patents by 2009,” says Vice-Chancellor R. Radhakrishnan.


The centre is executing a project, “Development of Trademark Search Engine Using Phonetic and Speech Algorithms for Electronic and IT Industry,” at a cost of Rs. 99 lakh. The Department of Information Technology is funding it. The centre has also submitted six project proposals to various funding agencies. They will cost Rs. 10.57 crore. Patents have been filed on behalf of the students and faculty of the affiliated colleges and university, and also the public.
