Coimbatoreian Invents Three-way Lock System

The adage ‘innovation is the key for success’ seemed to hold good for Adoor P Balakrishan, who has invented a ‘Three-way lock system’.Demonstrating his product to this website’s newspaper, the septuagenarian said he had been developing the ‘lock’ for the past five years and it finally took shape to be ‘unlocked’ in the market. The lock has some unique features of locking the door threeway with an iron rod encased in a bronze pipe connecting the top, middle and bottom of the door.Just at the twist of the bronze handle, the door gets locked ensuring a fool proof security.“Heavy and genuine parts are used.

Stainless steel lever and high quality grease (that melts only at 130 degrees celsius)are used ensuring smooth operation of the lock system,” he said. After assembling, the locks are sent to Ambattur for polishing and gold-plating.“ I live here in Coimbatore and I am keen to manufacture in bulk quantity, but I need enterprising industrialists who would support me in my endeavour,” he said adding that manufacturing was easy but marketing was really tough.Balakrishnan after his schooling at his native Adoor in Kerala, did odd jobs. After much struggle, he started his lorry transport venture which went on well initially.

He took a U-turn from his business and plunged into manufacturing auto parts for LML Vespa at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He had to shut shop when LML company was wound up. Back in Kerala, he started developing the three-way lock system.Balakrishnan’s wife Oomana is in Kerala while he lives with his foster daughter Chithra who takes care of him in his old age besides helping him in his innovation.
