Crime Prevention Drive
Teams from the Coimbatore Rural Police carried out surprise checks at certain places in the district in a crime prevention drive. Kavundampalayam and Thudialur were among the growing suburbs where the teams carried out checks for history-sheeters. Similar checks were carried out in Tirupur also. More than 100 persons, including 50 in Tirupur, who were in the adverse notice of the police were picked up across the district for questioning.
Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural, G. Karthikeyan, said that the drive in Tirupur also was carried out in the wake of crimes in a town with a substantial migrant workforce. Besides questioning these persons, the police also took their fingerprints to check if these matched with those lifted from the scene of crimes.
