Lifestyle Exhibition
Visitors taking a look at innovative cookware at the lifestyle exhibition organised by Supremo Trade Fairs at Padmavathy Ammal Cultural Centre in the city on Friday. Even a seasoned shopper may find it difficult to choose the best from the sea of melamine crockery at the Padmavathy Ammal Cultural Centre. After wading through stacks of plates, mugs and soup bowls, one might not be able to resist picking up a few of those brightly coloured crockery.
These imported, ‘unbreakable,’ crockery is one of the main attractions of the exhibition of lifestyle products organised by Supremo Trade Fairs. One could pick up a Kg of these for a standard rate of Rs.199. The price is decided on the weight of the items. These can also be used in microwave ovens. The fair has a surprise for those who support the cause of animals. It has a stall which sells furniture made of composite leather. Though a little more expensive than ordinary leather, the company is against cruelty to animals and promotes furniture made of non-animal skin materials.
A number of house-hold products including washing machines, DVD players, refrigerators, televisions, cooking ranges and furniture and furnishings have been displayed in the 100-odd stalls from various parts of the country. A few companies from the United Arab Emirates and Thailand have also put up stalls. The organisers expect the synthetic flowers from Thailand to catch the fancy of the visitors.
Innovative kitchen appliances such as the electric tandoor, cookware that does not require water or oil for cooking, and instant chapati makers are already drawing huge crowds of women to the fair. Most of these stalls offer discounts up to 20 per cent. The AMC cookware on display is already popular among the home-makers here, says K.Mahalakshmi, one of the franchisees of AMC Cookware. With lifestyle diseases on the rise and the people becoming increasingly health-conscious, there is a need for innovative methods of cooking such as this. These vessels also help in saving time and reducing LPG consumption, she adds.
Among rows of stalls selling electronic gadgets are also smaller ones that have cotton textiles and apparel from Coimbatore. These display an impressive variety of bed linen, dress materials and bags. They also sell readymade shirts and salwar kameez sets. Sarees and dress materials from Kolkata too add to the variety. The Bengal Cotton sareers and silks come in various shades and patterns.
And for the children, imposing wall stickers of cartoon characters and educational and game CDs are available aplenty. The pickles from Rajasthan and the sweet-meats from Udhagamandalam are a must try. The fair is being held in Coimbatore for the eighth year consecutively, says M.Srikanth, Proprietor of Supremo Trade Fairs. It would also be conducted in Salem, Madurai, Tiruchi, Puducherry and Erode. The fair is on till June 16.
