‘no’ To Smoking

The youth and children of Moolapalayam village in Thondamuthur block of Coimbatore district took a pledge on Saturday to say ‘no’ to smoking and tobacco. As the first step, a person to person information and awareness campaign on the dangers of ‘passive smoking’ was started in the village.

According to a release from the Field Publicity Office, the youth and children took part in essay writing and elocution contests on “the evils of tobacco,” and “for a healthy lifestyle.” A public meeting and screening of films on health and sanitation were also conducted. The films were dubbed into Tamil for the benefit of the villagers.

The programme was held at the Village Knowledge Centre, a centralised information and health centre functioning in the village. A campaign against smoking and tobacco had been launched by the Field Publicity Office in Coimbatore, Erode and The Nilgiris districts in cooperation with the Tulsi Development Trust of the M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation.
