PRIST And UDIS Entered Employment Training

The PRIST (Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Science and Technology) University, Thanjavur, has entered into an agreement with the UDIS Forum to offer employment training for persons with disabilities. The immediate aim of the joint training programme is to set up at least five centres in the State for offering six-month technology training for persons with disabilities and initiate short-term training for student volunteers from colleges, said M.N.G. Mani, president, UDIS Forum.

P.Murugesan, Chancellor of the University, said the certificates would be provided by the university. The courses would be offered as part of the university’s extension activities. In order to encourage more persons with disabilities, the university had waived the admission, tuition, and the examination fees.

Besides employment training, the Department of Disability Management Studies of the university was also planning to start professional courses and skill-based courses on disability management. The existing institutions serving persons with disabilities would be assisted to serve as the extension centres and PRIST University would provide computers, scanners, printers, and other technology devices to these institutions.

AES Technologies India would provide skilled trainers to train the persons with disabilities at these extension centres. The company would also appoint suitable trained candidates. The first course would begin in Coimbatore in July. Institutions and persons with disabilities interested in the programme, Prudent (PRIST University – UDIS Forum Enablement Training), can contact UDIS Forum at 0422-2433827 or 94426-07572.
