Scholarship For Hearing Impairment Students

Coimbatore City Round Table No.31 has given scholarships to three students with speech and hearing impairment for their higher studies.According to a release from the association, four students studying in the Corporation Deaf and Dumb School and Vocational Training Centre, R.S. Puram, got selected in Kalasalingam University for B.E. The course fee per year is Rs.30,000.Out of the four, one student won a full scholarship. The course fees for the other three students would be sponsored by the Coimbatore City Round Table No.31. The University offers a six-year B.E. programme specially designed for students with hearing impairment.

The Round Table through its vocational training centre trains pre-final students of the Deaf and Dumb School, R.S.Puram, in skills such as lathe work, fitting and welding. The students certified by the training centre have been getting placements in various industrial companies in Coimbatore.It also runs an artificial limb centre for the poor in addition to the free heart surgeries performed on poor children. The organisation has also built about 60 classrooms at a cost of Rs.1.6 crore for the benefit of the students.
