TNAU Exhibition

Kumari Anandhan, chairman, Tamil Nadu Palmyrah Development Board (right), visiting an exhibition at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. Chairman of Tamil Nadu Palmyrah Development Board Kumari Anandhan called for popularisation of dwarf palmyrah types to improve the conditions of the palmyrah workers.


He was interacting with the palmyrah research team of the horticultural faculty while on a visit to the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) recently, according to a university release.The chairman asked the scientists to develop a mechanised equipment for climbing palmyrah trees after observing a demonstration of the palmyrah tree climber developed by TNAU.V. Ponnuswami, principal investigator of several palmyrah research schemes, elaborated the various research activities of the university.



Identification of high neera yielding dwarf palmyrah types, value addition and marketing of both edible and non-edible palmyrah products, mass multiplication by tissue culture, etc., were explained to Mr. Anandhan.He was briefed on the various hands-on training programmes held in different parts of the country for palmyrah tappers.Mr. Anandhan promised to extend necessary support from his side for further strengthening palmyrah research at the university.
