Continuous Lok Adalat Session
Litigants being given a patient hearing at a continuous lok adalat session held at the District Sessions Court Complex on Sunday. The Continuous Lok Adalats held at Udumalpet and Pollachi on Saturday and at Coimbatore on Sunday had helped in disposal of 193 cases awarding a compensation/settlement of Rs 89.08 lakhs.The Principal District Sessions Judge, G. Chockalingam conducted the adalats. The adalats were being conducted by the District Legal Services Authority as part of the Alternative Dispute Redressal System to reduce the pending of cases.The continuous lok adalats handed cases pertaining to cheque bounces under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, matrimonial disputes, payment of maintenance, civil suites, criminal appeals, motor vehicle accident cases original petitions.In the adalat held at Udumalpet a total of 20 cases were disposed and a sum of Rs 1.11 lakh was awarded as compensation. At Pollachi 51 cases were disposed awarding a settlement/compensation of Rs 21.51 lakhs and in Coimbatore the highest number of 122 cases were settled awarding a compensation/settlement of Rs 66.45 lakhs.
